Welcome to the homepage of the association Mendelssohn-Gesellschaft e.V.!
Sonntag 26. April, 17:00 Uhr: Sonntagsmusik zum 100. Todestag Alexander Skrjabins [mehr]
On these pages, you will find information about the Jewish philosopher Moses Mendelssohn and his descendants, and about the history of the family as it played out in Berlin.
The philosopher ancestor of this grand dynasty of Prussian commoners and his grandchildren, the composers Fanny Hensel and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy as well as many other members of the Mendelssohn family, have profoundly influenced the economic and cultural history of Germany.
In the former headquarters of the Mendelssohn bank in Berlin´s Jägerstrasse, our association is developing a forum of commemoration in the exhibition and event venue called the "Mendelssohn-Remise". A space that once served as the bank´s carriage house is now home to many forms of showcasing the multi-faceted cosmos of German-Jewish history.
On our homepage, you will find details of our exhibitions, events, research projects and publications, and of course how you can contribute: by becoming a member, by volunteering your services and, last but not least, by your donations.
In the era that was truly theirs, from 1762 until 1933, the Mendelssohn family has created a cultural heritage of pragmatic idealism paired with a sense of responsibility for the society in which they lived. In recognizing their importance to their world, we rediscover the significance of civic responsibility.
